Random Journal: Why Po x Tigress?

Am a bit bored at the moment and seeing as I didn't update my journal in a while, mite as well start with something that's been swarming the net the past 2 months.
Point being: Po and Master Tigress from Kung Fu Panda 2.

While I've seen quite a few people supporting it, there's been some "angry" ones that just hate it from no apparent reason, most of them just saying that a panda and tiger crossing is just gross.
Well newsflash people, Dreamworks have had a habit for making inter-species relationship in the past (Shrek and Madagascar) and it's worked just dandy and fine.

But back to the point, if you'd ask me about the couple 2 years ago, I wouldn't even consider it. That was until I watched the sequal and I was rather shocked how well they actually fit together.

Lemme state a few things.



Secrets of the Furious Five: (I just figured to begin here, since it pretty much reveals Tigress' past)

It was revealed that Tigress spent her early childhood in an orphanage, feared and unloved by people, simply because she couldn't control her temper and stregnth; until Shifu came and tought her to control herself, but even after that people were still too afraid of her, so in the end, Shifu decided to take young Tigres under his care.

And just when she expected that things had finally turned good for her, even at Jade Palce, she couldn't find what she had hoped for. After Tai Lung's fall, Shifu, who spent almost 30 years raising him as his own son, fell into depression so deep, that he treated little Tigress as a student, rather than daughter, constantly nitpicking her every mistake, thus denying her the same attention Tai Lung did, leaving her feel unloved throught the rest of her life. The worst thing a parent can do to a child, is to deprive it of that which it needs the most while growing up: love.

So Tigress ended up growing up pretending to be a lean, mean fighting machine, while botteling her real emotions.



Kung Fu Panda: (while not from Tigress' side, there's alot going on Po's side regarding her during the 1st movie)

I pretty much starts in the morning, while Po is trying to immitate Tigress' roar (and giving the neighbor a rather WTF expression XD).
So it continues to the Jade Palace tournament, where Po is trying to get in, only to fail multiple times. And just when he's lost all hopes of getting in, while sitting on the palace stairs twiddling his thumbs, when Master Shifu announced Tigress, he instantly snapped back into reality, because there was no way he'd miss his greatest idol doing something awesome.

While trying to return to his room at night (after a rather awkward chat with Crane) Po is interrupted by Tigress, who tells him that he should get lost, because he's making her and the rest of 5 look bad. To Po, being told off by the person he admired the most, was like a dagger to his innocent lil heart.

While demonstrating the split-attack, Po looks at her with a rather perverted looking face (others will argue that he just melted from the "awesomeness" of the move she performed, but people believe what they want XD); and soon after (after still checking out her rear XP) a rather large chunk of the plates falls on his head, and quickly picks it up while trying to hide it. That same chunk, was declared by the developers to be called "Love Chunk". XD

With Mantis performing the aqupuncture on Po, Viper help up the picture of point's locations, that had a panda in it, with Tigress right in the middle of it.

After explaining Shifu's past with Tai Lung, only to express how he didn't love her the was he did him, Po got a slight burden of guild of realizing how much the Dragon Warrior title ment to her and Shifu.

After overhearing, Po telling Shifu how misrable he is being how he is and the only reason he kept staying was hoping that Kung Fu could change him, her resentment toward him somewhat deminished.

In the end, after Tai Lung was finally beaten and the 5 comfronted Po, out of all, Tigress stepped before him and bowed to him. And than while one would least expect, for the 1st time in the entire movie, she gave a pure, pleasent smile (my heart melted a bit after seeing that natural beauty <3).



Kung Fu Panda Christmas Special:

While not much is happening during the episode, after comming to Mr. Ping's noodle shop for the festival, she gives Po a smile while saying "Happy Holiday, Po."
There is however a revelation, that Tigress has a somewhat motherly nature going on (all thanks to her charming voice actress mp doubt ^^).



Kung Fu Panda 2: (jiz there so much stuff here -.-)

Firstly, you will notice that throughout the whole movie, Tigress constantly stands near Po or right beside him.

In the begining, you'll notice a piggy and bunny playing with Po and Tigress action figures (I know it's nothing but still XP). Than the scene changes to part where Po is stuffing his mouth with bean buns and while one would expect her to be a total kill-joy, quite the opposite, she encouraged him.

When arriving to the musician's village to stop the wolfs, after Po tries to intimidate his opponents with "My fist hungers for justice!" and his tummy rummbles, while others gave a "wha..." expression, she smiled at him. During the battle, it shows that the 2 have developed sort of a dual- fighting style... Kung Fu Tango! XD
In the end, just before Po go smacked across the face by Wolf Boss' maul, she tried to intercept only to fail.

Just as they leave for Gongmen City, Po's dad stops him to give him all the provisions, including the action-figure of Tigress, after which he tries to deny it after seeing her make the "o_O" expression, only to end up saying "Dad, you've got scratches on MY Tigress." XD In the end, Tigress waited for him to say goodbye and assure his dad that he'll be back.

On the ship, the night before they arrived to the city, she spars with him and than with Po ending up saying that she can't feel anything, Tigress for the 1st time realizes how he sees her, an emotionless fighting machine; which was quite clear from her expression that she didn't take that too well.

After failing to capture Shen, much thanks to Po, after their dispute in the jail and finally discovering that Shen knows what happend in Po's past; Po refused to listen, claiming that Tigress couldn't understand what he was going through. In the end, when he and the 5 expected him to get slammed by her as she charged at him, much to everybody's shock, she warped her arms aground him and gave him a hug, claiming that she know how he feels, but she just couldn't watch him die. This is an important moment, because people constantly argue that hug moments mean nothing and that they're just friends. Actually, IT IS a big deal. It's not normal for friends to exchange hugs whenever they please, unless it's their thing. And this is Tigress we're talking about, the "Iron Lady" who's more likely to swipe your face off than do something tender. So there is obviously something going on here.

Inside the cannon workshop, where Po confronts Shen, only to end up being shot by his Grand Cannon, split second after impact, Tigress tried to interveen, only to be pushed back by the force of the shot.

In the burned village, after realizing that Shen inflicted a genocide on his people and Soothsayer telling him that he should instead thing on the path he has walked up to this point, in the flashback, once again shows the moment, when Tigress, the idol he admired for, like forever, hugged him for the 1st time.

Later, at the canal leading to the harbor of Gongmen City, as Shen's fleet departed, the 5 were strung up for the execution, Monkey tried to encourage them that Po wouldn't want them to surrender, only cause Tigress, who was under the impression that he died right before her, got into "point before crying" (or she was already crying, I couldn't make it out because it was too dark, so we'll just have to wait until DVD release), but in the official novel, it said she was.

With 5 free, joined by Shifu, Ox and Croc, they inflict huge damage to Shen's frontal fleet and as they approach, Shen aimed his Grand Cannon at Po again, but just as he lit the fuse, Tigress pushed him away, before the inferno from cannon blew them away. As he resurfaced from the bay and looked aground to see his friends wounded and clinging to remains of the ship, he swam to Tigress to check if she was okay, only to smile at him before she lost concisness. Po gave Shen, who was smuggly smiling from his Juggernaught, an angry look; he didn't know about his family being killed until a few moments ago, but with what he did just now, harming his Master and friends, especially Tigress, he's just made it really personal. So he pushed the wrackage to which she was clinging on, to avoid the line of fire, yet as he swam away from her, she tried to reach at him.

And finally, after Shen finally being blow up by his own creation, Po ends up seeing Tigress standing on a boat with a smile, offering him a hand to pull him out of the water. Soon after complimenting his achievement, a smile appeard on Po's face and gave Tigress a big hug, much to the shock of the bystanders (especially Crane XD), but even more to Tigress herself. After realizing it's become somewhat awkward, he quickly let her go, only to be pounced on by others. Yet despite that, Tigress was still left in a temporary state of shock, possibly because this was the 1st time in her life anyone ever hugged her. Somebody showed affection toward the cold, hardcore "Iron Lady".


Well, that pretty much sums it up.
All we need to do now is to wait 2 more years, for the release of 3rd movie, before this matter resolves and see if we were heading in the right direction.
